QuitScrolling
Privacy Policy
Last updated July 17, 2026
QuitScrolling is operated by ShrinkMD Publishing LLC ("QuitScrolling," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how we handle it, and the choices you have. We designed QuitScrolling around data minimization: we collect as little as the service needs to function, and nothing more. By using the QuitScrolling app or website, you agree to this Policy.
The short version
We don't read your messages. We don't track your browsing. We don't sell your data. We don't run advertising trackers. This website collects no personal information from you unless you choose to allow analytics in the cookie banner. When the app launches, it will collect only what it needs to sign you in and sync the schedules and locks you create.
Who we are
QuitScrolling is a productivity and digital wellness app that helps you pre-commit to staying off distracting apps at night. It is part of the Shrink Network, a group of independent properties operated or medically reviewed by Shariq Refai, MD, MBA, FAPA. QuitScrolling is published by ShrinkMD Publishing LLC.
This website
The QuitScrolling marketing website does not require an account and does not process payments. By default it collects no personal information from visitors. If you consent in the cookie banner, we use Google Analytics to collect aggregate usage statistics, which may include identifiers that count as personal data in some jurisdictions; you can withdraw consent at any time via "Cookie settings" in the footer. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking technologies on this site.
Information the app collects
When the QuitScrolling app is available, it will collect the following, and only for the purpose of running the service:
Account information. We use a third-party authentication provider (Clerk) to manage sign-in. This includes your email address, a name if you choose to provide one, and a unique account identifier. Passwords and sign-in credentials are handled by Clerk. We never see or store your password.
App data you create. We store the schedules you set up, your lock sessions and their outcomes (completed, recovered, or ended early), your reports, activity events, any Household profiles and alerts you configure, and any feedback you send us. This data is stored so it is available when you sign in across your devices.
Payment information. If you subscribe to a paid plan, payments are processed by a third-party processor (Stripe). We receive your plan status and subscription identifiers. We do not receive or store your full card number.
Recovery phrases. The recovery phrase for a commitment or deep lock is shown to you once, for you to write on paper. It is stored only as a salted, one-way hash. We cannot read, retrieve, or reconstruct your phrase.
Limited technical data. Like most online services, our servers keep standard logs (such as a truncated IP address and basic device or app-version information) for security, troubleshooting, and reliability. On this website we use Google Analytics, but only if you consent: analytics is off by default, the Google Analytics script does not load until you choose "Allow analytics" in the cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time via "Cookie settings" in the footer. When enabled, it gives us aggregate statistics about how the site is used. We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not build advertising profiles. See the Cookie Notice for details.
What we never do
- We don't read your messages.
- We don't monitor your photos.
- We don't watch what you browse.
- We don't sell your personal data.
- We don't record your conversations.
- We don't track your precise location.
- Accountability is optional and always your choice. We never require a partner, and a partner never sees your messages, only whether you kept your commitment.
- We don't use streaks or guilt to pressure you.
- We don't run third-party advertising trackers.
- We don't pretend to be a healthcare service.
How we use your information
We use your information only to operate and improve the service: to authenticate you, save and sync your schedules and locks, generate your reports, deliver Household alerts, process subscriptions, keep the service secure, and respond to your support requests. We may use aggregated, de-identified statistics to understand and improve the product. We do not use your personal data to train advertising models or sell it to anyone.
How information is shared
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share data only with the service providers that make the app work, and only to the extent they need it to provide their service to us:
- Clerk (authentication and sign-in).
- Stripe (subscription payment processing).
- Hosting and database infrastructure (to store and run the service).
We may disclose information if required by law, to comply with a valid legal request, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the public.
Accountability partners (optional). If you choose to add an accountability partner, we share one thing with them: whether you kept or ended a protected lock. We never share your messages, photos, browsing, apps, or location with them. Adding a partner is opt-in, requires their contact information (such as an email or phone number), and you confirm you have their permission to contact them. We use a partner's contact details only to deliver these notifications, and we delete them when you remove the partner or close your account. You can remove a partner at any time.
Data security and retention
We protect your data with encryption in transit and at rest and with access controls that limit who can reach it.
Data retention and deletion
We retain your account data only while your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently delete your account and its associated data from our systems, including your schedules, locks and lock history, reports, activity, feedback, and any accountability-partner records. Your recovery phrase, which is stored only as a salted, one-way hash, is destroyed with your account.
Two limited exceptions apply. First, we may retain limited records we are required to keep by law, for example for tax, accounting, or fraud-prevention purposes, and only for as long as the law requires. Second, if you have made a payment, it is processed by Stripe, and Stripe holds limited billing information such as your email and the last four digits of your card. When you delete your account, we delete your customer profile with Stripe to remove your personal payment details; however, Stripe retains the transaction and invoice records it is legally required to keep for tax and accounting under its own retention policies, which we do not control.
We do not keep your data longer than necessary, and we never retain your messages, photos, browsing, or other content, because we never collect them.
Your rights and choices
You can review and edit your schedules, locks, and profile at any time inside the app. You can also:
- Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Delete your account and associated personal data.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Export your data in a portable format.
To exercise any of these, email support@quitscrolling.app. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
California residents. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act. You have the right to know, delete, correct, and access your personal information, and to be free from discrimination for exercising these rights.
Residents of the EEA and UK. Where the GDPR applies, our legal bases for processing are: performance of our contract with you (to provide the service), your consent (where requested), and our legitimate interests in keeping the service secure and improving it. You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, and port your data, and to object to certain processing. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
International users
QuitScrolling is operated from the United States, and your information is processed and stored in the United States. By using the service, you understand that your information will be handled in the US, which may have data protection rules different from those in your country.
Age requirement
QuitScrolling is intended for adults and is for users aged 13 and older. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, email support@quitscrolling.app and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
