This page explains how we decide what to claim.

What we cite

We prioritize primary sources and authoritative bodies: peer-reviewed studies, the CDC, the National Institute of Mental Health, SAMHSA, and clinical guidelines from groups such as the American Psychiatric Association. We link sources so you can check them.

How we weigh evidence

We distinguish what the evidence suggests from what it proves. We note when findings are correlational rather than causal, when effects are small, and when results apply only to a specific group.

What we avoid

We avoid single-study overstatement, cherry-picked statistics, and claims that go beyond the data. We do not present wellness content as medical treatment.

Review

A board-certified psychiatrist, Shariq Refai, MD, MBA, FAPA, reviews each article for accuracy before publication and on update.

Limits

Science changes. When it does, we revise. If you believe a claim is outdated or unsupported, email support@quitscrolling.app.

How the Learn articles are written.

The articles on QuitScrolling translate clinical and research literature on attention, sleep, and screen use into plain language. Claims that depend on specific research are linked to the source. Where the evidence is mixed, the article says so. Where the evidence is limited, the article doesn't pretend otherwise.

What we draw on.

  • Peer-reviewed sleep medicine literature.
  • Attention and self-regulation research from psychology and neuroscience.
  • Clinical practice guidelines where they exist.
  • Publicly available datasets on screen time and mental health.

What we don't do.

  • We don't extrapolate beyond what the evidence supports.
  • We don't claim QuitScrolling treats any clinical condition.
  • We don't use AI to generate clinical claims or invent citations. Every claim and every citation is reviewed by a human, usually Shariq.

QuitScrolling is operated by ShrinkMD Publishing LLC. Part of the Shrink network.
